Every year around this time we visit Ireland to see the family. We plan our trip around this time of year so we are able to see our Grandchildren. Part of the fun is to sit and listen as they tell us what they hope to get from Santa. Well: It’s all part of Christmas.
This year our visit was early as we decided to visit during the October School Holidays. Imagine the surprise whilst out shopping in Balymena Town Centre to see that the Local Authority had already erected the Town Christmas Tree.
Now don’t get me wrong, I am a Christmas sort of guy. I love Christmas and all the things that go with it especially the presents and all that “Peace on earth and Goodwill to all everyone” Well it’s traditional and of course it’s fun!
I mean what harm does it do to anyone?
Ballymena may have got a head start on me but I have started and will catch up. I don’t know about you but somehow this year is different. Of course I’m looking forward to it and my thoughts as always are with mine and my own but this year I am also thinking of those who are serving with our Armed Forces throughout the world, especially the folks in Afghanistan. Christmas is supposed to be a time of happiness and joy, a family time. Sadly for many as they get ready for Christmas it will be with the knowledge that their will be an empty place at the table on Christmas Day. There will be presents under the Tree that will not be opened on Christmas Day.
For some they will have to wait and worst of all ––– there will be those presents that will not be opened.
It brings home the sacrifice they are asked to make.
As we get ready for the run up to Christmas, please take a moment to reflect. Please spare a moment to remember what Christmas is really about. On the Christmas Cards you’ll see the Christmas message, “Peace on Earth and Good News for Mankind”.
Pray for those who are serving overseas.
Pray for peace that they can come home safe.
Pray for families left at home to worry.
Pray for “Peace on Earth and Good News for all”
