Christmas is fast approaching and it’s time to think of what it means. As time goes by it gets more and more materialistic. I don’t class myself that old at 56 but I do remember what Christmas was all about in our household. It was a time when the whole family were together, the gifts we exchanged were given a lot of thought. Many of them were not expensive but that didn’t matter because they were given with love.
At school you made your own decorations for the house and things you could hang on your Christmas tree. That was a great thing to do for the family but nowadays; it’s in the shops so we just buy them instead.
We seem to miss the whole idea of what Christmas is all about and who it’s all about. Christ was born in a lowly stable not a grand hospital. His bed was a manger not a crib and His swaddling clothes acted as a warm blanket. Christ’s first visitors were not of Mary and Joseph’s family but shepherds who heard heavenly angel’s voices singing Hosanna, Hosanna a King is born tonight in Bethlehem. Then there were the three wise men, these men knew just how this baby called Jesus was going to change this world. And change it must, for man must learn to love one another as Jesus loves each and every one of us.
As I have said before, the Kirk Session here in your parish church of St. George’s Tillydrone pray for each and every one of you. We especially pray for sadness to be lifted from your hearts, tears are wiped away and the loved of our Lord Jesus Christ fills your hearts.
May we all here at St. George’s Tillydrone wish you a very Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.
Look out for the times of all our Christmas services.
Kenny Williamson
Please pray for your Kirk Session here at St. George’s Church and for all the hard work they do.
