Saint George’s Tillydrone Church

Church of Scotland

Over the past five years Saint George’s Tillydrone Church, Tillydrone Community Council and the Good Folks of Tillydrone Community have been involved in two projects working to help support and provide free education for Young People in Uganda, Central Africa.
In early September 2008, Ross Grant, (Community Councillor), Kenneth Naismith, (Divinity Student) and Jim Weir, (the minister from the Church) visited with our Friends at Miki Club in Kampala and Bezallel School, Kamuli Township, Uganda.
Their Visit was to meet with the folks in Uganda working with the Young People. We wanted to try and find out what help was most needed and how we as a Community, might be able to help meet some of their need.
Within a few short weeks of their return we had collected enough Equipment, Books,
Clothes Shoes, Toys and Bicycles, to fill a Container. Our Container left Aberdeen
on 31st. of October 2008, and even though it
took many months before it was able
to finally reach it’s destination, we are happy to be able to report that it was
delivered safe to our friends in Uganda. Part of the Vision of the project is to
further develop and strengthen the links between Tillydrone Aberdeen and our Friends
in Uganda. We are at present discussing plans with our Local School, Riverbank Primary
School to put in place a Twinning arrangement with the Young Folks at Bezallel Preparatory
School in Kamuli. Following on from the recent visit of Stephan Gesa and Pastor Fred
from Bezallel School in Kamuli, we are looking forward to visiting Uganda in February
next year, when Stephen promises to return the favour and get his own back on us.
To all of our our Friends in Uganda: -–– “Bon Accord!”
“Happy to meet”. “Sorry to Part”. “Happy to meet again”.
Tillydrone is a Community that cares:
